The Journey of Jesus Alive Church Kisaasi
The story of Jesus Alive Church Kisaasi is not one that began with strategy, structure, or even a clear vision of building a church. It began with something far more personal, pain, faith, and the relentless pursuit of healing.
In the year 2000, Pr. Hope Zinomugisha faced a life-threatening sickness. Like many in such moments, the family sought help from every possible avenue. Medical facilities were consulted, hospitals visited, and even traditional herbalists approached. Yet, despite all efforts, there was no lasting solution.
When all seemed uncertain, they turned to prayer.
What started as a desperate search for healing soon became a powerful spiritual journey. Prayer teams from different churches began visiting their home regularly, standing with the family in faith. Among them were members from the Anglican Church, particularly Reverend wabwire and his wife of St.peter' church-kisaasi , who offered comfort, encouragement, and the Word of God during a very trying time. Other believers from Grace Church, including Bishop Dr. Joshua Lwere of Grace assembly Church, also joined in, strengthening the spiritual support system around the family.
It was during this season that a pivotal moment occurred. Through a friend, they were introduced to a man from the Democratic Republic of Congo, the late Ibrahim Karegeya. His counsel was simple but profound: gather consistently, at least twice a week, and pray specifically for healing.
Soon, what began as small, intimate prayer gatherings started to grow. People from different places and backgrounds began to join. The atmosphere of faith, hope, and expectation drew many. Without realizing it, a fellowship was being born.
As numbers increased—growing from just a handful to between 20 and 50 people—the need for structure became inevitable . A simple place of worship was constructed using timber and ironsheets. It was humble, but it marked the beginning of something significant.
However, growth came with its own challenges.
At the time, the founders had little experience in preaching or leading a church. To sustain the fellowship, they began inviting and hosting different pastors. Among them was
Pastor Webstar came to minister with pastor Morris , who briefly led the ministry after relocating from Mbale to plant a church. For about two years, he helped shape the early spiritual direction before moving on to pursue other endeavors.
Other pastors followed Pastor Patrick, who at one point referred to the ministry as “The Ark of God.” Still, the church had not yet settled into its identity or name.
More visiting ministers came through, including pastors from prayer mountains and later a group from Busoga. These leaders contributed to the church’s growth, teaching, and organization. The church even went as far as supporting them—building accommodation and entrusting them with responsibilities like baptisms and offertory management.
But in a painful turn of events, some of these leaders eventually split the congregation, taking many members with them.
What remained was not a thriving congregation but a small group of about six believers.
For many, this could have marked the end.
But for Pr. Robert and Pr. Hope Zinomugisha, it marked a new beginning.
Around 2006, they made a bold decision to stand and lead the ministry themselves. Without formal theological training, they stepped forward in faith, learning to preach, teach, and shepherd the remaining flock. It was a turning point that defined the identity and resilience of the ministry.
From that moment, the church was no longer dependent on external leadership. It had found its voice.
Slowly but steadily, the church began to grow again. Well-wishers and friends came alongside them, supporting the ministry in practical ways providing chairs, praying with them, and strengthening their mission. Notable individuals such as Judge Musoke and Elizabeth became part of the journey.
The church continued to move through different locations, including Ndundu. However, challenges persisted. In Ndundu, despite paying several months of rent in advance, the congregation was unexpectedly evicted after just one month.
They returned home literally transforming a space beneath their residence into a place of worship. It was there, between 2007 and 2008, that the church was firmly replanted.
From that humble home setting, the church began to flourish.
Membership increased, faith deepened, and the ministry grew stronger with each passing year. The experiences of loss, transition, and rebuilding had forged a resilient, Spirit-led community grounded in prayer and perseverance.
Today, Jesus Alive Church Kisaasi stands as a testimony of what God can build from brokenness, obedience, and unwavering faith. What began as a search for healing has become a place where many now find spiritual restoration, hope, and purpose.
Under the leadership of Pr. Robert and Pr. Hope Zinomugisha, the church continues to growbnot just in numbers, but in impact carrying forward the same spirit of prayer, unity, and faith that gave it birth.
