Jeremiah 38:6–13 | Job 5:12–13
“God knows your pain. God knows your loneliness. God knows your situation — and you will not die in that pit.”
The Pit Is Not Your End
Jeremiah was a faithful man of God. He preached the truth. He stood for righteousness. And yet his enemies conspired against him, went to the king, and had him thrown into a muddy pit — lowered down by ropes into a dark, hopeless place with no water, no light, and no way out.
If you have ever felt like you were sinking — in a situation not of your making, in a season that seems to have no exit — then this message is for you.
The pit is not your end. It is simply where God sets the stage for your rescue.
God Sees You in the Dark
When Jeremiah sank into that mud, there was no crowd cheering for him. No one coming to his defense. The vision seemed gone. The hope seemed buried. Everything looked finished.
But God had not looked away for a single moment.
That is the nature of the God we serve. He never slumbers. He never sleeps. He is not limited by darkness, by distance, or by the depth of any pit. He is omnipresent — which means He is in the pit with you, even when you cannot feel Him there.
You may feel forgotten today. You may feel that the hand of God has withdrawn. But the truth is — He is watching, working, and about to move on your behalf.
God Frustrates the Plans of the Enemy
The people who threw Jeremiah into that pit thought they had won. They celebrated. They danced. They told themselves, “It is finished.”
But the Bible tells us in Job 5:12–13 that God frustrates the plans of the crafty — so that their hands achieve no success. He catches the wise in their own cleverness, and their schemes are swept away.
Every trap that has been set against your life, every scheme plotted in secret, every word spoken to destroy your name — God has already seen it. And not one of those plans will succeed against a child of the living God.
Your enemies may think they have finished you. But by the time they open their eyes and look again, they will be asking: “What happened? We thought we had finished him. We thought we had finished her.”
God will change your report. God will change your story.
The Destiny Helper Will Come
At just the right moment, God placed a heaviness in the heart of a man named Ebed-Melech — a palace official who had no obligation to Jeremiah, no personal stake in his survival. But God stirred him. He became restless. And he walked straight to the king and said: “These men have acted wickedly. If we do not pull Jeremiah out of the pit, he will die.”
The king gave the command. Thirty men were sent — not ten, not five — thirty men, moving fast, with a royal order to rescue the prophet before he took his last breath.
That is how God works. He does not send a small, quiet, barely-enough rescue. When God moves, He moves with authority and speed.
Your destiny helper is already on the way.
You may not know their name. They may not be who you expect. But God has already placed a heaviness in someone’s heart — someone who will speak on your behalf, open a door, change a conversation, reverse a verdict — and pull you out of your pit before it is too late.
Destiny Helpers and Destiny Changers
There is a difference between a destiny helper and a destiny changer. A destiny helper comes to rescue you — to pull you out of the immediate danger. But a destiny changer comes to transform everything — your direction, your identity, your future.
Ebed-Melech was a destiny helper. But God did not stop there. He wanted to do more than just save Jeremiah from dying in a pit. He wanted to restore his ministry, vindicate his name, and fulfil every word He had spoken over his life.
God is not just trying to help you survive. He is trying to change your destiny — to move you from the mud to the mountain, from the pit to the palace, from sinking to standing on solid ground.
Hold On — Your Report Is About to Change
When Jeremiah was being lowered into that pit, his eyes remained on God. He did not curse God. He did not give up. He held his faith in the One who had called him — and that faithfulness was not ignored.
To the faithful, God remains faithful.
Whatever has been said about you — whatever negative report has reached the ears of people in power — God is preparing a counter-report. A report that cleans your name. A report that silences your enemies. A report that causes people who once looked down on you to look again in wonder.
Do not lose hope. Do not give up. Do not let the depth of your pit convince you that God has forgotten you.
He has not.
He is sending men. He has given the command. They are moving fast.
Prayer:
Father, I come to You from whatever pit I find myself in today. I may not see a way out, but I trust that You do. Send Your destiny helpers. Frustrate every scheme of the enemy. Change my report and change my story. I refuse to sink in despair — I choose to keep my eyes on You. Pull me out, Lord, and let my rescue bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’s mighty name, Amen.
